Geological Net Zero (GNZ)
A New Framework for Fossil Carbon Responsibility
Two carbon cycles, two timescales: the climate challenge begins when geological carbon is released faster than natural processes can restore it.

The climate challenge is not only about reducing emissions. It is also about managing the transfer of fossil carbon from geological reservoirs into the atmosphere, oceans and biosphere.
Geological Net Zero (GNZ) proposes a framework in which fossil carbon producers and consumers share responsibility for preventing, reducing and permanently compensating the release of fossil carbon.
Our ambition is to connect scientific understanding, industrial transformation and climate finance to accelerate the transition towards a defossilized economy.
