Help build the Geological Net Zero Pact
Addressing climate change requires cooperation across the entire carbon cycle, from fossil carbon extraction to energy consumption, defossilization, and durable carbon sequestration.
Geological Net Zero (GNZ) invites researchers, businesses, public institutions, investors, and civil society organizations to contribute to the development of a shared framework for fossil carbon responsibility.
Areas for Collaboration
Scientific research
Advance knowledge of geological carbon storage, biogeochemical cycles, carbon accounting, geomicrobiology, and long-term sequestration.
Industrial innovation
Develop and demonstrate technologies for defossilization, CO₂ capture and storage, sustainable bioenergy, biochar, and other carbon removal pathways.
Climate policy and governance
Explore the regulatory, institutional, and economic mechanisms needed to translate the GNZ principle into measurable and verifiable commitments.
Climate finance
Design financing approaches that mobilize fossil carbon value chains to support defossilization and durable sequestration, including dedicated transition funds.
International cooperation
Connect producers, consumers, governments, territories, and carbon sequestration operators through mutually beneficial partnerships.
Ways to Contribute
Contributions may include scientific publications, critical reviews, technical proposals, demonstration projects, institutional discussions, and collaborative research.
Participation does not imply endorsement of every GNZ proposal. Independent scientific assessment and constructive debate are essential to the initiative.
